File downloads

Clicks on links to files are tracked as file_download events, whether the file is on your site or elsewhere.

Tracked extensions

A link is a download when its path ends with one of:

pdf xlsx docx txt rtf csv exe key pps ppt pptx 7z pkg rar gz zip avi mov mp4 mpeg wmv midi mp3 wav wma dmg

Other files

For downloads the tracker can't see, such as a file generated by JavaScript or a link without an extension, send the event yourself:
